Ten months later, warrant issued for stoned motorist who struck and killed cyclist, then went home and took a bath

The wheels of justice are finally turning (albeit very slowly) for Dale Connors, of Madison, Wisconsin. He was hit and killed while riding his bicycle last February, and police are just now getting around to issuing a warrant for the motorist who hit him and felt so bad about it she drove straight home [...]

Thinking about rickshaws

Posted by admin on December 20th, 2007 filed in Uncategorized

There’s a guy selling what look to be honest-to-God rickshaws on ebay for three hundred bucks. And that’s with shipping included! I have a feeling the quality of these things is extremely poor, but even so, a rickshaw would be cool to have for when visitors come from out of town.
The one [...]

Wal-Mart introduces full-service bike department

Posted by admin on December 13th, 2007 filed in Uncategorized

I was in Target the other day and walked by the bicycle section. I was astonished at how cheap those things are. I didn’t really look at the quality of the bikes, I just saw the price tags. They were Schwinn bikes, cruisers and townies. Unbelievably cheap it seemed to me. [...]

Caught by Surprise by the Tuesday Night Ride

Posted by admin on December 12th, 2007 filed in Uncategorized

I came back from a meeting at the law school last night to my office just in time to see about thirty bike riders stream by in the night. They must have altered the chosen course because my office on Simpson wasn’t supposed to be on the route! It was interesting to be [...]

Yes, the Tuesday Night Bike Ride is happening tonight!

Posted by admin on December 11th, 2007 filed in Uncategorized

It is pouring down rain and freezing, but Nick just sent this around:
Our goal was to shorten the ride tonight since we’re anticipating rain and a very small turnout tonight. It might be nice to use the extra time we have to take it easy and maybe make a few new friends. I suggested that [...]

I’m not kidding.
My friend Joy sent me this under the subject heading “it’s not just Tucson.”
The victim has had little luck getting the police to act, even though he has the vehicle’s license number and its registered owner. But so far the driver’s insurance has failed to pay the cyclist’s medical bills [...]

First cargo bike seen on Tuesday Night Bike Ride

Posted by admin on December 6th, 2007 filed in Uncategorized

I sadly did not make this week’s ride, but Elizabeth reports that our friend Lauren rode her Mexican Mercurio Cargo Bike the whole distance. I am still waiting for Lauren to write up her account of going down to Mexico to purchase this bike, and her adventures riding it across the border on the [...]

More carhead: cyclist killed by inanimate object, no citations issued

Posted by admin on December 6th, 2007 filed in Uncategorized

Streetsblog has a great post on a tragic incident in New York on Tuesday. A cyclist was doored, flipped into traffic, and run over and killed. The streetsblog post parses the language from the news reports about the accident to display the car-head bias at work.

Tonight’s Tuesday Night Community Bike Ride Route

Posted by admin on December 4th, 2007 filed in Uncategorized

There’s been a lot of back and forth with the Tucson Police Department in the last few weeks. Riders last week probably noticed that Captain Tarrant was present at the start of the ride.
We are going to need to do a better job of staying out of the way of traffic and [...]
