More on Patti Jane Lopez
According to KVOA, she was a mother of two, apparently rode her bike often (for example, to her son’s baseball games) and yes, she had lights on her bike when she was killed.

Lopez was "clipped" by SUV and killed
The Arizona Star is reporting that Patti Jane Lopez, who was killed last night, was “clipped” by an SUV as she rode her bicycle on the shoulder of North Camino De La Tierra in Tucson.
I was speaking with a friend this morning who teaches bicycle safety and she said that local bicyclists need to [...]
Bicycling and gender equality . . . on CNN?
How on earth this article about bicycling and women’s rights ever made it to the front page of CNN.com I will never know. Most TBL readers are probably aware of Susan B. Anthony’s famous statement about bicycles and women’s liberation, but this article goes a little ways into the history, too.
Some things haven’t changed [...]
Tucson cyclist struck from behind by SUV and killed Tuesday night–driver not cited
She was struck from behind by an SUV. No citations issued yet. There still isn’t much information available, but Lauren and I will get the police report when it is made public.
Thanks to all the TBL readers who emailed this to me.

In that attack, a vehicle pulled up to a Tucson bike-commuter and the passenger struck the [...]

Reminder on Glenda Rumsey hearing tomorrow
Most of you know that Glenda Rumsey will be appearing tomorrow for a pre-trial conference in Superior Court. I have a hearing at 9:00 and will probably miss this, but will try to show up just to show support for the family of Jose Rincon, the young boy she killed while driving a car, [...]

I was so proud to be a Tucson bicyclist last night! Lots and lots of people showed up at a public hearing over the proposed new highway that will cut through downtown, linking Aviation Hwy (eventually) with I-10. The Dunbar Spring neighborhood (where BICAS is) really organized on this one, and turned out [...]
Read More..>>Good grief!
Rhino from the Urbanseeds blog sent me this one. Something about it smells like it may not quite be random violence against cyclists, but you have to kind of admire the pure audacity of the attack. I hope this man is okay.
