En bici alrededor del mundo

Posted by admin on June 12th, 2008 filed in Uncategorized

Perhaps you have seen him parked on 4th Ave…his bicycle is hard to miss. Renato Campihno, a cheerful Brazilian man, is riding his bicycle around the world. Today I had the pleasure of riding with him for a few blocks. Apparently he will soon embark for Sedona as he makes his way [...]

Posted by admin on June 10th, 2008 filed in Uncategorized

I talked to my friend Nick Jett on the bike ride tonight. He says the one-year anniversary will be June 27 (his birthday), but we aren’t sure which Tuesday that is closest to this year.
Tonight’s ride had 200 or more people on it I think–it was huge. And what a beautiful [...]

Tucson Citizen weighs in post naked bike ride

Posted by admin on June 10th, 2008 filed in Uncategorized

The story is here.
As my friend Kyle says, whoa, people sure are making a big deal about this. I’m wondering what Freud would say, not about the participants in the ride, but about the crazy and obsessive and childish reactions to it.

Jose Rincon ghost bike to be removed by City . . . sort of

Posted by admin on June 9th, 2008 filed in Uncategorized

I’ve just been told the City intends to cut the lock on the Jose Rincon ghost bike. I am told they won’t remove the bike but they will cut the chain. Because, you see, it cannot be chained to city property.
I think Tucson ought to consider looking the other way on [...]

Posted by admin on June 7th, 2008 filed in Uncategorized

I’ve sure been getting a lot of calls about the World Naked Bike Ride. It turns out the article in yesterday’s Daily Star was on the front page, above the fold, and a version ran in the Arizona Republic as well. The comments sections are, as usual, particularly awful. Now TV stations [...]

An interesting, somewhat counter-intuitive approach to bike theft

Posted by admin on June 4th, 2008 filed in Uncategorized

Those Dutch! They have apparently discovered that one of the best ways to prevent bike theft is to teach people how to steal bikes. By holding classes in lock-picking they are able to demonstrate what a simple matter it is to steal an improperly secured bike, which then causes people to use better [...]

Egged on the Tuesday Night Bike Ride

Posted by admin on June 4th, 2008 filed in Uncategorized

Twice now somebody has thrown eggs at the Tuesday Night Bike Ride.
It takes a certain kind of person to hurl eggs at a group of 300 healthy bike riders, but I guess doing it from a car, as this person does, takes the courage out of it.
If it happens again I would urge whoever the [...]

This photo has been all over the web the past few days but so many people at the Tuesday Night Ride had not heard of this incident, and many others have written me to ask why I haven’t posted about it.
It’s not an easy picture to look at. It is a photo of a [...]
