Posted by Erik on October 13th, 2009 filed in Cool bikes, Joie de vivre, Tuesday night ride

The ride meets at the flagpole at Old Main: go to Park and University and go one block east into [...]

Scavenger Hunt Report

Posted by Erik on October 12th, 2009 filed in Joie de vivre

At the last minute another obligation I had vanished and I was able to ride in this year’s El Grupo Scavenger Hunt. Team Janet and Paulus let me ride with them, along with Greg Yares, Tucson’s realtor for bicyclists (you also have him to thank for the Fourth Avenue Bike Swap).
As usual, just before [...]

Congratulations Lori! And thank you to everyone who bought tickets and helped us out. BICAS made lots of money and [...]

Folks, that is a photograph of seven year old Kylie Bruehler. She is at a funeral service to bury her parents, both of whom were killed last week when a driver veered onto the shoulder and drove his pickup truck into them.
They were riding together on a tandem.

Posted by Erik on October 7th, 2009 filed in Cool bikes

Here are some of the BICAS employees showing off your new cargo bike, the one you are going to win, um, maybe, if you buy a six-dollar raffle ticket from any BICAS employee or from me.
And if you don’t win, well, it’s six bucks to a good cause.

A post for Wendy

It’s hard to look cool at a stop light, but apparently in Copenhagen, women over a certain age tend to wait at lights by standing next to their bikes rather than astride them. Classy!

Beloved El Grupo Scavenger Hunt Bike Ride this Saturday

Posted by Erik on October 6th, 2009 filed in Joie de vivre, upcoming bicycle related events

If you have never done this, you really ought to. It’s a hilarious ride around town with lots of other people, all equally bewildered, scrambling to put together puzzle pieces and ride in for the glory.
There’s a reason it won Best of Tucson.
Team Tucsonbikelawyer took second last year, but we lost all [...]

BICAS’s “joyous bicycle dungeon” in the news for its refugee assistance

Posted by Erik on October 6th, 2009 filed in Joie de vivre, imminent death of car-based culture

BICAS got front-page, above-the-fold billing yesterday in the AZ Daily Star for its work to get bicycles — and the knowledge to keep them running — to Tucson’s refugee population. The project is organized by Lutheran Social Services‘ Refugee and Immigration Program, and BICAS was happy to help.
From the article:
Free bikes a big deal [...]
