All Hail Old Pueblo Bank
imminent death of car-based culture October 21st, 2008
I just knew something would come along and let me blog about the banking industry.
Emiliano just sent me this story about Bike-Thru Banking at what might be the nation’s only cool bank (so far).
Click on the short movie. Behold a lane that has been blocked to cars, and bears the universal “bicyclist” symbol. A lane with a water cooler in it in case you get, you know, thirsty. And a trash can.
If you live anywhere near Boulder, go open an account with these folks and put all your money in it. You must have some, right?
My own bank can barely work up the energy to install a bike rack. And you should see the thing. It is made out of a few tin cans hammered into shape and painted black.

I think Tucson already has a bank with a bike up / walk up drive thru. It’s that credit union on Park Avenue, south of Speedway.

Arizona State Credit Union near the UofA has a bike rack out front, AND a bike-thru lane. Alas, it has no water cooler, which would be a welcome addition in late July…

Very cool, except for the paper cup trash being made. The cyclist should be refilling her own water bottle.
Good to know about banks in town with bike through lanes. I must say I do appreciate my local Wells Fargo as I never get a hard time about biking in the drive-through. I cannot say the same for stupid Walgreens which won’t serve bikes in its drive through. Makes me mad every time I think about it.

Aw, Mindy, get with the program . If Walgreens were permitted to serve bicyclists in its drive-through, then there would be fewer sick people. And if that happened, who would they sell their drugs to?
