I agree that David needs to be called out. I've long been suspicious of his motives and actions. Where's the transparency in his finances. He does NOT own the Citizens Warehouse yet he is the leaseholder collecting (and, I assume, pocketing) the rent checks. If he fails to step up and show his finances, we should vilify him for the slumlord he is. BICAS - take the gloves off! We can beat this clown!

This is what I find disturbing: David Aguirre has refused (on multiple occasions) to speak with the BICAS Board of Directors! If this were something personal against BICAS he ought to man-up and explain his actions; But he most likely doesn't give a damn. David is business, and not unusual.

He might be an insensitive, immature, profit-driven, venture-capitalist with no vested interests in the community (isn't he from Wisconsin?) disguising himself as a human, pretending to be a clay sculptor (or something like that, he has a degree in ceramics). Perhaps he is only an artist because the media tends to loosen its' tongue a bit at moneys' request, and he is actually a 'clever' real estate agent that used the guise of 'artist' (created by a few 'good' reviews) as his way-in to the arts community of Tucson, in order to execute his plan to build an 'art-space' profit farm. He probably thinks of BICAS as bad business, and is already drooling over the projected margins...

I wondered about his motives and considered (briefly) that he might be a wealthy-butt-hurt bully, crying because Janos Wilder is taking over the building that houses the Dinnerware Artspace, and raising the rent on BICAS was a sort of revenge; Then I realized that the boo-hooing of people in Tucson over the closing of Dinnerware will by no means compare to their reactions to the temporary closer and relocation of BICAS. Let's face it, BICAS served more to the community then coffee and gallery space. David didn't seem upset at Time Market the other day going over the deal with Janos. So what is David's deal? The business Bottom-line: Money. His plan for grafting off the successful artistic endeavors of fools only works if these fools don't find out where their rent checks go. I don't think anybody will shed a tear if (by act of BOYCOTT) David's studio spaces are left empty including the new ones he plans to build in the (current) BICAS building.

If his motive is as it appears, then: How much money does this dude stand to make by executing his "Master Plan" for Tucson's art community? Is it really a good idea for Tucson to allow him to succeed? That depends on who you ask, and if you ask me, BICAS should stop paying their rent until either the city awards them the lease, or Dave prepares to pay for the eviction. Eviction would be a joke of course, because only scum would go to those lengths against BICAS, and if David did, he would have a hell of a hard time showing his face around town, let alone renting his studios.

For David's information, a man with a master plan for anything other then his own life is a creep and a cur.

I almost feel bad for David because people might actually figure him out before he retires; Then he'll be a failure at business in the same way he has failed to earn the support of the Tucson community.

Oh yeah, this is to David as well (if he reads this site), I love Anne-Marie, she works her butt off for people she loves, and loves doing it. You could have been kind and looked at MOCA in a less-then-jaded-by-business way before you put your foot in your mouth.

Erik: Is their an option to petition the city to lease
the building to BICAS, instead of David. The lease must be renewed on some regular term, right? How much would it cost David to evict BICAS?

I tried contacting David at (520) 869-3166 (found at: http://www.ercregistry.com/index.a4d?action=search.profilePage&id=5049), he has not called me back.

BICAS is intimidating if you're over 30 with a helmet and reflective vest? Heck, I'm over 50 and answer in the affirmative on the helmet and vest attire. Maybe I'm oblivious to intimidation, but I've never experienced such a thing at BICAS.

maybe they can set up at one the bankrupt malls. This was one of the reasons I left Flag: Greedy Landlords! It amazes me to see the bottom blowing out of commercial real estate and landlords thinking they can still do this. News Flash: renters like BICAS should be able to find a decent place for a mortgage and kiss the soon to be bankrupt landlords GOODBYE!

The building is not to hard to find (if you use a map ad the signs), but rather intimidating if you go there and are over 30 with a helmet and a reflective vest. I rented a bike for 5 bucks a day. I was able to ride in the Silent Ride. They also had a free bike part pile. You really can't go wrong with this place. I am sure they will find something. When I was there the place looked full of people.

I have cycled all over the world and it amazes me how when you have crappy infrastructure and maybe other things like Police harassment or weather issues, you can still have a big cycling community or should I say a tighter group.

In Maricopa we have the opposite awesome infrastructure, and hardly any commuters, well people who will ride on the street.
I can go days with out seeing cyclists on the road. Some roads I go on I only see cyclists every 3 or 4 months, and they are hugging the right side on a narrow lane.

Ok end of rant.

"BICAS sub-lets the building from David Aguirre, who snagged the lease from the State of Arizona way-back-when for pennies on the dollar. He now sublets to BICAS and many other artists."

Is David Aguirre targeting only BICAS at this time?
