"Bicycle Boxing" arrives in Tucson
Years ago kids liked to lean out the passenger side of speeding cars and swing baseball bats at mailboxes along the road. This was called “mailboxing,” as in, “yo, we’re going mailboxing tonight.”
Recently though this mundane practice has become outdated, apparently, and some have taken up a more sophisticated sport they call “bicycle boxing.” It’s the same basic idea, but more challenging because you have to seek out and find a bicyclist, who you then attempt to knock over by beating them with a baseball bat as you drive alongside them.
This game has, I regret to report, made it to Tucson. I would be very curious to hear from anyone who has been the victim of one of these attacks. You can always email me confidentially at ryberg@seanet.com. Thanks.

What’s next? Bicycle hunting? Has the TPD legalized that yet?

What’s next is video cameras on bikes.

Yes, but of course video cameras would only help if the local police were willing to investigate these crimes.

Video cameras on bikes would only help if the local police were willing to investigate these crimes. Or if the bicyclist, when he recovers, knows that a homemade thermite mixture placed on the hood of a vehicle will burn a hole all the way through the engine block.
