Bogota bike race . . . cyclist v. bus v. car

From Mike’s Bogota Bike Blog. (Note: Transmilenio is the public transportation system, basically enormous buses driving in dedicated bus lanes.)

This morning, a cyclist, a Transmilenio rider and a car driver ‘raced’ 7.5 kms across Bogotá during the morning rush hour. Naturally, the cyclist (Ferreira, the city councilman who plan to create a public bicycles program) arrived first, in 20 minutes. The Transmilenio rider arrived ten minutes later, and finally the car driver, five minutes after him.

A couple years ago, the british TV show Top Gear had a similar challenge across London. The bike won there, too.

That reminds me a lot of what the BBC did on Top Gear when they had a Car vs. Boat vs. Bike vs. Public Transport race across London during rush hour… the bike won by about 15 minutes.
