The GABA Bike Swap is my third-favorite bike event every year after the BICAS Art Auction and Cyclovia. Tucson Bike-Realtor Greg Yares puts a lot of work into organizing the bike swap and it shows — it’s a wonderful event that you really kind of need to attend if you haven’t been before. Take advantage of the El Gruppo bike valet because the crowds are big and wheeling a bike through them can be kind of annoying for everyone.

I’m very excited about the Ciclovia route this year. It goes down Meyer and to “restaurant row” in South Tucson. It’s a very good route with good pavement, no traffic, and lots of stuff to look at.

The bike ride is from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Start anywhere you like, go whichever direction you like, and have fun! The streets will be car-free and there will be events along the way.

All you have to do to win this beauty is to buy a raffle ticket for six bucks (or two for ten) either directly from me (below) or at the massive party this Saturday at The Hut with five bands (Tom Walbank, Sunny Italy, Evasion Pixel, Garboski, and Mexico City’s Sour Soul), fire breathers, fire throwers, jugglers, dancing, and beer.

Even if you don’t want the cargo bike, you should still buy a raffle ticket and support BICAS. You can always donate it back to them if you win!

So BICAS is having a birthday party!  You all should come!

Celebrate our 20th Anniversary!

Where: The Hut (305 N 4th Ave)

When: Saturday, October 10th, 2009 (doors open at 7 PM)

BICAS invites you to Kuruma Banare, our 20th Anniversary
Birthday Bash! In celebration of 20 incredible years in the Tucson
community, The Hut is hosting a birthday party benefit for
BICAS. Events include live music, dancing, juggling, circus
performances, and a cargo bike raffle. Confirmed performances feature
local Tucson groups Sour Soul, Evasion, Pixel, Fox, Tom Walbank,
Garboski, and Golden Boots. All proceeds from the entry will be
donated directly to BICAS. Minimum suggested donation is $5.00.

We are so pleased that these local Tucson bands and acts appreciate BICAS and want to celebrate with us. And I think it is just plain cool that this organization has endured so long and provided bikes, bike repair classes, art, art classes, and even bi-lingual repair manuals to so many kids and adults over the years. I’m really proud of all the people who have been involved with BICAS over the past two decades. Here’s to twenty more!

Friday, August 14, marks one year since Chuck was killed. We want to remember this day by decorating his Ghost Bike so that drivers will see it and be reminded to share the road. We are gathering at 5:30pm. The bike is located at the west entrance to Udahl Park on Tanque Verde Rd. Join us if you can.
