Sex columnist Dan Savage has weighed in on cycling fatalities. For some reason

It took a whole seven comments for someone to say that because bicyclists are small and unprotected by a giant steel cage, they should go ride elsewhere.

    52,000? Over 80 years? For the whole country? That seems a little light.

    Sounds a lot safer to bike than drive. Almost 42,000 are killed in auto related accidents EVERY year.

    Seattle may have a reputation for being cycling friendly, but judging by the reader comments (even in the urban-youth-oriented free weekly, The Stranger) it’s apparently a pretty thin veneer with seething homicidal hatred just below the surface. Yay!
