DIY bamboo trailer and the GABA swap meet
My co-worker Elizabeth and I set up a table at the GABA Bike Swap yesterday next to Dwight from peacesupplies. (If you have a cool sticker on your bike, there is a very good chance it came from Dwight! Check out his offerings.) We met many readers of this blog and passed out a petition to the Tucson Police Department, asking TPD to respond more professionally to bike accidents and bike assaults.
There was a fellow at the swap meet who had a bike trailer made from an old shopping cart. He had simply run a rod through the thing and bolted some 26 inch wheels on the end, and fashioned a connection to his seatpost with piece of wood, a bent rod, and a strap. It actually looked like it worked pretty well.
I have always admired the ingenuity that comes from assembling cast-away materials into something useful.
While poking around for something like that on the web I found these plans for a bamboo, do it yourself bike trailer. I found the link via urban velo, one of my favorite bike blogs.
There is a guy in town on the BAC who rides a bamboo bike. It’s very interesting.
