El Grupo victorious in 24 hour race
Both El Grupo teams excelled at the 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo mountain bike race this past weekend. El Grupo Uno took first place in the 5 person co-ed combined age division and completed 16 laps. El Grupo Dos competed in the 4 Person Men’s Open division and completed 15 laps.
It snowed the night before the race, so the course was muddy and fun. It was bitter cold but we pressed on through the night, and we had a great time out there. In the photo to the right, Ignacio Rivera de Rosales tells Alex Strickland “may the force be with you” as he prepares for his night lap. Alex completed the fastest El Grupo lap time in 1:13:28. Two El Grupo riders did their laps on rigid single speeds.
The lifesize saguaro (shown in the top photo) was welded by Troy Neiman with bike rims that El Grupo straightened. It held used tubes from the race that are now going to be donated to BICAS.

Where can I find more info on El Grupo? Is it strictly for high school students or open to everyone? I did a google search and didn’t come up with much. Thank you ma’am!

Excellent work. I was in the team that placed 5th in the same category. El Groupo rocked it!
