Ghost bikes in Tucson?
Uncategorized May 30th, 2008

I just got a call from a KGUN reporter doing a story on Glenda Rumsey, the drunk driver who killed Jose Rincon. The reporter wanted to know if there were any ghost bikes in Tucson, and if not, why not.
Good question. We certainly have plenty of candidates.
Update: there is a ghost bike at the place Jose Rincon was struck and killed, at Broadway and Harrison. KGUN is doing a story about it.

Wow, that’s powerful.

That’s brilliant. I’ll be happy to work on it with anyone who wants to put some up. Simple: paint the bikes, make the sign, lock them up. I’m guessing BICAS might donate some bikes for it? It would be best to put up between 5 and 10 at once (economy of scale, maximum saturation of message….gives me away as a capitalist). I’ll be happy to sponsor locks and paint.

Hi Janet,
I’d like to donate at least $50 towards this project. Chains & locks are expensive. A good friend’s husband was killed @ Orange Grove & 1st ave on a bike. Maybe i could get his info and place one there. Dan Fleury

Count on funding from tucsonbikelawyer.com as well.
I even have some bikes to donate. Let’s not use Wal-Mart bikes, but real bikes made by real people, bikes that once were useful but now have finally come to the end of their own lives. I have a few of those.

This is great………. A friend who prefers to remain anonymous told me about Ghost Bikes a week ago, and now there’s already one up and press to boot…. hmm… It is simple and brilliant. de Vie
