I got a ticket for doing the exact same thing at a stoplight down in Virginia. I made the mistake of giving the cop my drivers license instead of some other form of ID and the ticket was written up as a standard traffic violation as if I had been driving a car $156 bucks! I went to traffic court and when the judge asked me how I plead I said guilty but asked for lenience. He said "im feeling very lenient today, what are your reasons for asking." I informed him that (A) I had a clean driving record and (B) at the time of my moving violation I was riding a bicycle. At that point the entire courtroom erupted in laughter. The Judge quickly waved the ticket and I only had to pay the court fee $56.

I actually don't know if the infringement was removed from my driving record since I had an out of state license, but I guess the lesson is that this kind of thing is completely arbitrary depending on the judge.
