Lauren disembarks on her beautiful new La Suprema longtail

I am so envious! My friend (and former legal secretary) Lauren stopped by yesterday to show off her new La Suprema longtail and it is just absolutely gorgeous. We rode the Tuesday Night Community Bike Ride together and this morning she and Jarod took off heading east, to Nova Scotia via Florida.

Ah, youth.

At least this time she’s not trying to do it solo. That longtail is super badass btw. Oh, and do you have any sage legal advice on how to avoid tickets from DPS and state troopers and stuff when cyclists ride on the shoulders of interstates? ;)

    Good luck Lauren!!!!!!!

    Bon voyage, Lauren!

God, Lauren is so cool. :D You’re not looking for a new assistant, are you?

Best of luck your adventure Lauren!

Michael, I don’t see what the problem is with riding solo. I’ve ridden solo on long bike tours in the United States and Canada. Never had a problem that I could talk (or, occasionally, yell and cuss) my way out of.

Just an observation, she needs to move those panniers on the rack forward for better balance when loaded. I rode a lot of miles with a LWB bike and take it from me weight behind the rear axle is bad.

Lauren, you make me grin. Travel safe and happy! Collect maps!

Martha, Their isn’t a problem per se of going it alone. Only that should you take a header on a cattle crossing grate and split your coconut, there’s no one to take pictures of how hardcore you are ;) Or to call EMS but you get the idea I think.

More pics are up on the L. S. website now. Interesting design the way the frame wraps around the rear wheel to provide a place to bolt the rack.

Hey Everyone…I miss Tucson already- you guys are all so wonderful!

I am glad you like my bike…Ed does good work! Made it to las cruces through a BRUTAL headwind and am now taking a few days to chillax and use the internet. I have a website with a blog if you are interested in keeping up with me: http://www.larjar.com/

michael- in certain states such as AZ and NM it is legal to ride on the shoulder and you will often see signs that say: bicycles use shoulder only…I have been pulled over before in TX and I just explained to the cop that the frontage road was too rutty to ride on, and he allowed me to proceed. most of the time the cop will probably just tell you to get off the hwy.

opus- i did move the bags…initially we were still adjusting the shifting on the rohloff hub and the bags were in the way…i had to make a semi-permanent bottom attachment point for the panniers so moving them around is a bit of work.

as far as going solo vs. with someone- solo does have its advantages…i have done quite a bit of solo touring and you seem to meet more people that way…but touring is so much more fun with my best friend who happens to be 6′4′ and looks like a lumberjack. when i am touring alone and something demoralizing happens i straight up just start crying. haha. i didn’t enjoy being alone when a crazy meth-head pulled a gun on me in oklahoma…or when i woke up at 4:45 a.m. to some rando standing over my sleeping bag in california. its good to know i can do it alone but i am definitely happy to have met jared.

matt- i have left notes like this on people’s bikes before…
