More on Melissa Arrington and Paul L’Ecuyer
Uncategorized January 24th, 2008

That’s Paul L’Ecuyer, riding his bike.
It is a lot harder for me to feel much sympathy for Arrington, who killed L’Ecuyer last year, than it is (at least so far) for the woman who hit and killed Jose Rincon.
Here is a much more detailed article about L’Ecuyer than what was available yesterday, from today’s Citizen. I am very glad the Citizen is taking these stories seriously and publicizing them.

The Associate Press picket up on the sentencing story and it’s on CNN’s website as well.
Thanks for posting the link for the article in the Citizen. The cyclist, Paul A. L’Ecuyer, sounds like a outstanding person.
Please post any additional details if you come across them. How long before Arrington is elligable for parole; can she get her license back after getting out of jail, etc?
My thoughts go out to Paul’s family.

In a similar story, a woman in CA was turned around while driving, rooting around in the back seat looking for a baby bottle, and hit and killed a cyclist as a result. The DA is not even pressing charges, and explains why at http://redding.com/news/2008/jan/22/criminal-charges-could-not-stand-up-in-redding/
Personally, I don’t see much difference between barrelling down the road while not even watching where your going, and driving drunk. In both cases, you make the choice to engage in what you know to be irresponsible behavior that winds up killing someone.
