My El Tour ride

Joie de vivre November 23rd, 2009

It turns out that El Tour Saturday was my friend Paulus’s birthday, so I helped him and three other friends celebrate with a nice bike ride and picnic outside Sonoita. My second most favorite part of the bike ride was the Lightning Ridge Winery, which we came upon just a few miles into our ride.

Twenty-seven dollars and a slightly elevated B.A.C. later we rolled on down the road to my first most favorite part of the ride, which was our picnic. It entailed wine, cheese, bread, figs, olives, artichoke hearts, chocolate, and some other stuff I can’t remember.

Thence home in the setting sun across the lovely high desert grasslands. I won a number of prizes, including First Place for Fewest Gears on Bike, First Person to Correctly Identify the Whetstone Mountain Range, and the coveted Best Cheese Award. Greg won First Place in Coolest BIke competition, Janet took the gold in Least Likely to Complain About Anything, and Stephanie got Best Figs, along with Second Place in Best Cheese.

Paulus got MVP and Best Bike Bell.

We all achieved Platinum and will begin at the head of the pack next year.

It was a great time and reminded me how fun it is to go bike riding in the country with your friends.

(I’m the dorky one in the middle.)
