My morning commute, Part 2
Uncategorized November 16th, 2007
This morning at 9:03 AM I was riding up Seventh Street when I saw three bicycle cops ahead of me. One was riding no-handed, and he pulled a cell phone out of his pocket and started dialing it.
He was also riding on the wrong side of the street.
None of them stopped at the stop sign at Sixth Avenue, and they proceeded onto the sidewalk to go under the underpass, right past the sign that declares bike riding on the sidewalk to be illegal.
It gets on your nerves, doesn’t it? Getting ticketed for some of the very things you watch the bike cops do every single day.

Well, none of the police around here (a Denver suburb) use turn signals, follow the speed limit, or have any respect for lane markings or signs when they’re driving. I doubt they would be any better on bikes (okay, maybe a little less dangerous to others).
The only time laws regarding traffic flow are really used is when they need an excuse to pull somebody over and check for warrants, drugs, etc. (“You were driving funny- mind if I have a look around the car?”)
