Critical mass July 29th, 2008

He says the cyclist drove into him, but the video shows something else entirely. . . .

After watching the video and also reading the testimony of eyewitnesses to the brutality visited upon this veteran of our armed forces, I think the officer will be very lucky to

    1. retain any hope of having a positive net worth any time in the next decade…

    2. remain out of prison…

    3. survive his sentence if he does get sent to prison.

It’s quite obvious that the cyclist was trying to avoid the officer, not run into him as the officer placed in an official document (lying on an official document is a big time felony and in NY grounds for permanent loss of LEO privileges) and the resisting arrest is probably bogus, too. Officer Pogan has no business being on the force, or in possession of a firearm for that matter. He is clearly psychotic if not sociopathic. Throw away the key.

If NYC “internal investigations” are as corrupt as some USFWS “internal investigations” of LEO misconduct or illegal acts, then the officer will retain his commission and likely receive a promotion with an “atta boy” slap on the back for body checking that lowlife, scumbag, freak bicyclist. (Thusly verified by the fact that what adult in their right state of mind would ride a bike when they could drive a vehicle!). If the video were unavailable, regardless of the number of eyewitnesses, the officer would most likely be completely exonerated of any police brutality.

As a former federal LEO, I can affirm that agencies are very reluctant to reprimand or punish law enforcement officers because of the cost to train them and the difficulty of finding officers who have not had previous brushes with the law or who are minimally qualified, even with the severe lowering of entrance and retention standards.

The “officer” who committed this criminal act of assault should lose his commission and never again be allowed in a position to potentially “deprive a citizen of his life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.”
