Patti Lopez ghost bike already vandalized, and already replaced
I hate having to report on ghost bikes getting vandalized. But they do. The Jose Rincon ghost bike was repeatedly vandalized. A ghost bike we installed on Columbus and Grant for Peter Visconti III was completely removed, presumably by the local business owner (though we don’t know that).
Now according to an email I just received, the Patti Lopez bike has been vandalized, but already repaired.
From: RK
I am glad to report that the Ghost Bike For Patti Lopez has been restored in place on CMO.DE LA TIERRA after having been vandalized about ten days ago . Patti’s father and family members refurbished and replaced the Ghost Bike today . It is a sad commentary on our society today that anyone would wish to destroy a memorial to a fine young woman and mother two, killed riding her bike
Thanks RK, the anonymous ghost bike installer, and the Lopez family for working to keep reminding motorists to be careful on the road.
Also — remember, if you want to make a ghost bike, BICAS will provide the bike for free.

I get creeped out sometimes riding at night and passing a ghost bike. It’s like a direct reminder that the road I’m riding on is dangerous for cyclists.

If someone knows how to get in touch with the family, it may be helpful if they cement the bike in the ground. I ride or run by there frequently and it doesn’t seem to be cemented down. It is a nice memorial for Patti.

Rachel,
The bike was cemented down. Unfortunately somehad had kicked it until the cement broke. My duaghters bus goes by there every day on the way to school and she had to see the memorial for her mother laying on the ground. Bothe the front and the back are now cemented.
