Philadelphia cyclist fatally hit by Greyhound bus in bike lane, no citations

Uncategorized July 27th, 2007

It appears that Tucson is not the only city where the police look the other way when cyclists are hit and killed.

Check out this short article from the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Bicyclist, 26, killed by bus in Northern Liberties

A 26-year-old Philadelphia bicyclist was killed last night when he was struck by a Greyhound bus on Delaware Avenue in Northern Liberties, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was riding south on a bike path near Fairmount Avenue about 6:50 p.m. when the bus turned. The man braked, flipped over his handlebars, and was crushed by the bus, police said. The bus driver was not cited, police said. – Michael Klein

My condolences to this man’s family and friends. I hope Greyhound is taking this accident very seriously.

I am a Philadelphia resident and cyclist, who is preparing to move to Tucson. I found this quick blurb on the Greyhound bus that killed the Philadelphia man a bit troublesome but I am not too surprised by the local police in-action.

I only stumbled across your web site because I was looking for info regarding Amtrak and Philly and Tucson.. I did not search for Greyhound or bicycle, but had to read the article. I hope I never need your services in AZ but I saved your web addy in my Favorites.. ya neva kno’!
