Portland Pt. II
safety November 13th, 2008
Do they do this in Tucson, paint a yellow strip in front of the bike racks so people don’t park there? I’ve been meaning to get down to Fourth Ave. to look there but I’ve been so busy I haven’t had a chance.
Having an opening like this to get into the street might make a huge safety difference because it means people won’t be riding down the sidewalk and entering the street that way, which (I am told) is the cause of many accidents.
Not all city bike racks in Portland have this feature, but a very large number of those I saw do.

What, and reduce the meter revenue?
I know they don’t on 4th or University, although there are some spots on both streets where a rack is not directly blocked by a marked car spot, but i’m sure that wasn’t intentional. The only way this is gonna happen here is if the rack area doesn’t eliminate a metered spot.
