Slate wants to know: do you have a stupider bike lane than ours?

Uncategorized March 28th, 2008

Slate thinks they have found the stupidest bike lane in America. It is less than one block long.

Think you have a stupider one? You can let them know.

This whole concept is pretty stupid. This indeed is a short stretch of bike lane but sometimes a city has to install them piece meal over time. That stretch might be short today but perhaps next year the next segment might get bike lanes when the road gets resurfaced. You need to dig deeper first.

What’s especially stupid about that bike lane is not the length. I know of shorter bike lanes.

Nor is it the placement in the door zone. That’s already stupid by definition, but the stupid standards allow it.

No, what’s really stupid is that it comes all the way up to an intersection, but fails to continue on the far side. No warning, no merge, nothing. Surprise!

No traffic engineer would EVER do that with a regular travel lane. They wouldn’t be a traffic engineer for long.

it is right down the center of a parking lot lane and at the ends it dumps you out nowhere.
