After reading the drivers version of this incident, I can see why you pulled your original post. It seems like the driver understandably freaked given the circumstance and felt horrible and bewildered about what happened. I also understand how things can get very confused in situations where mob mentality is present. Let it be a lesson for us here and learn from it. Now about our ride. When people ask me about the TNBR the first thing I tell them that it is NOT a critical mass ride and that if you want one–start your own. Most all the riders I know share the same view. More than once though I have chastised people on our ride for being discourteous to motorists and others — and gently remind them that ours is a community ride and that peace is more the theme. I will continue to do so. I don’t think that people realize that what we have going on(the TNBR)is a precious and rare thing. We should do our best to keep it that way. I know I will. peace–Dean
Hi Dean, I didn’t pull any posts. But maybe I should, because it seems some people are finding me sympathizing more with the cyclists than I actually do.
I think no one really knows what happened here and the whole thing to me is just sad. The cyclists corked the driver, the driver freaked out, the driver ran over somebody, the cyclists then attacked him. No event in the chain is justifiable.
Thanks Erik. I must have read the post right after you put it up and later it got buried under the other posts ect.. Anyway, I’m not siding with anyone. Everyone seems to have their version of events.I spent an hour or so reading comments and excerpts from various blogs last night–I mean how would you react if you were to see your buddy get run over by a car? How would you react if you were threatened by an angry mob? It will be interesting to see how this one washes out. Ride that bike–DG
I was there, and the driver wasnt scared, he said “fuck this” before hitting the gas, and running over two people, and then he tried to flee away from the scene while there was a guy hanging for his life on top of the car (after running over 2 people, he hit a random guy who somehow got on the top of the car)
I am not approving the person who hit the driver with the u lock, but you need to admit that the driver should have been arrested. Only 2 people got arrested and these two werent even the ones who assaulted the driver.
Dont believe everything you hear from media…
