Tonight’s Tuesday Night Community Bike Ride Route
There’s been a lot of back and forth with the Tucson Police Department in the last few weeks. Riders last week probably noticed that Captain Tarrant was present at the start of the ride.
We are going to need to do a better job of staying out of the way of traffic and following the lights, it seems, if we want to keep the police out of this ride.
The city has donated vests for our bike marshals (and lots of lights, too, distributed at the beginning of the ride) and I think we are getting closer to keeping this great bike ride trouble-free.
Check out the route Ian has proposed for the ride tonight.
His description:
Its pretty short (under 6 miles) and takes us through a neighborhood we haven’t yet visited (barrio blue moon). The crossing at speedway is a crosswalk, I figured we could all dismount and walk across. There’s nothing illegal about holding up traffic if you’re a bunch of pedestrians in a crosswalk. Unfortunately there is no legal way to access the pedestrian crossing on Oracle just north of drachman on a bicycle, we would have to ride on the sidewalk for a block to get there. And Euclid has absolutely no crossings that I’m aware of from Speedway all the way up to Grant. Other than that the route is pretty easy.
Thanks Ian! I’ll see everyone there tonight: 8 PM, the flagpole at Old Main, which is the entrance to the University at Park and University.
