Hi Fritz, I think you misunderstood the intent of Kylie's radio spot. This story is not about "airing grievances." Its about what it is like to be a part of a bicycling community...and much of that centers around the community congregating for the Tuesday Night Ride, which is definitely not "insane, dangerous, and un-fun." It is an exciting weekly gathering that promotes solidarity among bicyclists in Tucson.

Yes, there will probably be some grievances shared...because there are improvements that can be made to make riding a bike even more fun...but there will also be people who want to talk about how fantastic the ride is and how it has unified part of the bicycling community, etc. The radio spot is intended to encourage more bicycling through sharing the experiences of those for whom riding a bike is a way of life.

So if bicyclists in Tuscon air their grievances on NPR for all to hear, will that encourage more bicycling, or just confirm to the non-cyclists how insane, dangerous and un-fun cycling is? Please think about what you say and how say it.

Put another way: Given how much some of you gripe about cycling I'd think you hate bikes! I ride because it's a pleasant and fun way to get around.

Lauren had a great comment last night when interviewed. She said that for Tucson to be considered a "bike friendly" community, more than just the bicyclists have to be friendly!

--ER
