Tucson Citizen extols new bike lanes
The editors at the Tucson Citizen are proud of the new bike lanes, announced yesterday, but they obviously haven’t put too much thought into what is actually required to make this a safe place to ride a bike. Here’s their opinion piece from today.
Our Opinion: Pedaling away: new bike lanes
Tucson CitizenBicyclists should rejoice over another 21 miles of lanes for their vehicles completed in the Tucson metropolitan area this year.
Our city has long been rated among the most bicycle friendly in the country; this report enhances that.
Matt Zoll, Pima County’s bicycle and pedestrian coordinator, issued the report, saying the city of Tucson and Pima County governments each completed work on 10.5 miles of bicycle paths and lanes.
Among the highlights are infill along East Broadway, completing a route along the major east-west thoroughfare of 11.5 miles, from downtown to east of Houghton Road.
Also completed was the final mile of the Rillito path’s north side, between Campbell Avenue and Country Club Road, and eight other stretches of varying lengths.
It means one thing: happy pedaling.

Happy pedaling? Somehow I think there is SO much more to “Happy Pedaling” than a few new miles of bike lanes.
