Yesterday’s ride of silence
Uncategorized May 22nd, 2008
I didn’t make it on account of being quite substantially under the weather, and Lauren had to work at Ordinary Bicycles. But according to this news report, several hundred riders turned out for Tucson’s Ride of Silence. An especially poignant one given the recent death of Jose Rincon and, now, Patti Jane Lopez.

I went – I figured that it looked like about 200 to 250, maybe a little more. I was a little disappointed it wasn’t more in a city of almost a million people, but it was way better than if only 20 or 30 showed up. This thing needs better advance publicity next year – I only knew about it because I read it here.

There were about 175 folks riding in the Tucson event. It went pretty smooth despite the subpar pavement conditions on 22nd. We didn’t receive any negative attention from motorists, more curiousity of what our cause was than anything. We should have had a few signs stating ‘ride of silence’ like some portlanders did. http://bikeportland.org/2008/05/22/tracey-sparlings-family-joins-in-the-ride-of-silence/
