“You’re not going to see a whole lot of spandex on this ride”
So declared local bike hero and aficionado Nick Jett to the Arizona Daily Star yesterday, advertising the Tuesday Night Community Bike Ride. The discussion popped up somewhat improbably in an article about training for El Tour. Most Tuesday Night Bike Riders would probably not consider it the best workout, but Jett made the best of it by explaining that it’s a good place to start if you are uncomfortable riding in a group. Well, that’s for sure — it attracts hundreds of riders.
Last night local bike co-op BICAS stole the after-ride game of footdown, with new BICAS wrench Alex Nolke narrowly eking out a win against established BICAS wrench and welding star Troy Niemann, who took the silver. In the second round yours truly (and BICAS board member) stole first place by letting everyone else crash in a big heap on the other side of the circle. Just like one of my heroes, Lorenzo Bernucci on Stage 6 of the 2005 Tour.
